You’re not unwell exactly. But you’re not firing on all cylinders either.
The fatigue that doesn’t shift after a good night’s sleep. The inflammation that keeps coming back. The brain that feels like it’s running through mud. The recovery that takes longer than it used to.
A lot of people arrive at Vital360 with some version of that story. And a lot of them find that mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy — something they’d never heard of six months earlier — becomes one of the most useful tools they’ve found.
So what does it actually do, and what does the research say about the benefits?
How It Works — In Plain English
Your blood carries oxygen around the body using red blood cells. Under normal conditions, those cells are already close to fully loaded — there’s not much spare capacity.
When you breathe inside the AirPod chamber at a slightly elevated pressure (1.35 times normal atmospheric pressure), something different happens. Oxygen gets dissolved directly into the fluid part of your blood — the plasma — separate from the red blood cells entirely.
This plasma-dissolved oxygen can reach places that normal circulation struggles to get to: inflamed tissue, areas with poor blood flow, cells that are under stress and running low on fuel.
That’s the core mechanism. More oxygen, reaching further, doing more.
One thing that makes the AirPod different is that it also delivers molecular hydrogen into the chamber alongside the oxygen. Hydrogen is one of the most powerful antioxidants known to science, and it specifically targets the type of cellular damage that chronic inflammation and oxidative stress cause. Most hyperbaric chambers don’t include this. It means you’re getting the benefits of elevated oxygen, while hydrogen is simultaneously cleaning up the damage — a more complete package.
Research has confirmed that the pressure used in the AirPod (around 1.3–1.35 ATA) produces results comparable to much higher-pressure medical devices, without the risks those devices carry. More pressure doesn’t mean better results — the evidence consistently shows that mild pressure is enough.
The Benefits — What the Research Shows
1. More Energy and Less Fatigue
If your energy levels are low and sleep isn’t fixing it, the problem is often happening at a cellular level. Your mitochondria — the tiny structures inside your cells that produce energy — are either damaged, depleted, or not getting enough oxygen to do their job properly.
mHBOT gives them more of what they need. Research shows it improves mitochondrial function directly, allowing cells to produce energy more efficiently. Over a course of sessions, it also stimulates the creation of new mitochondria — so your body’s capacity for energy production increases, not just in the short term.
For people dealing with post-viral fatigue, burnout, or the kind of tiredness that has quietly become their new normal, this is one of the most consistently reported benefits of the therapy.
2. Reduced Inflammation
Chronic inflammation is behind more of how you feel day-to-day than most people realise. It shows up as joint pain, slow recovery, persistent soreness, brain fog, disrupted sleep, and a general sense that your body is working against you.
mHBOT has a well-documented effect on inflammation. By delivering oxygen to tissue that’s been running hypoxic and stressed, it helps the body shift out of the inflammatory state it gets stuck in. Research has shown significant reductions in the inflammatory signalling molecules that drive and sustain this response.
The molecular hydrogen component adds another layer here. Hydrogen selectively neutralises the most damaging free radicals — the ones driving oxidative stress — while leaving the useful ones alone. Oxygen fuels the repair; hydrogen mops up the by-products. That pairing is why many clients notice things settling down — less stiffness, less soreness, fewer of those flare-ups that used to arrive out of nowhere.
3. Better Sleep and Faster Recovery
If you wake up feeling like you barely slept, your body may not be doing its deep repair work overnight. Recovery — from training, from a busy week, from just being run down — depends on your cells having the oxygen and the calm nervous system they need to rebuild.
Sessions in the chamber are deeply relaxing — most people read, listen to something, or simply doze for the 50 minutes. But the benefit goes beyond the session itself. By improving oxygen delivery and easing the inflammatory load that disrupts sleep, mHBOT supports the conditions your body needs for genuinely restorative rest.
Athletes use hyperbaric therapy for exactly this reason: better oxygenation means faster muscle repair and less downtime between sessions. You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit — the same biology applies whether you’re recovering from squash, the gym, or a sixty-hour week.
4. Clearer Thinking
Brain fog is one of the most common things people mention when they first come in. Losing your train of thought mid-sentence. Reading the same paragraph three times. Feeling mentally flat by early afternoon.
Your brain is the most oxygen-hungry organ in your body — it uses around 20% of everything you breathe in. When oxygen delivery is compromised, thinking is one of the first things to suffer.
Because plasma-dissolved oxygen crosses into the brain and cerebrospinal fluid more readily, mHBOT delivers enhanced oxygen directly to where it’s needed. Research into hyperbaric therapy has shown improvements in attention, processing speed, and memory, and many of our clients describe the change simply: the fog lifts.
Why Mild Pressure Is Enough
A common question: if hospitals use chambers at twice atmospheric pressure or more, isn’t mild therapy just a watered-down version?
No — and this is one of the most interesting findings in the research. Studies comparing pressures have found that the benefits of hyperbaric therapy don’t keep climbing as pressure increases. The cellular responses that matter — improved mitochondrial function, reduced inflammation, better oxygen delivery — switch on at mild pressures around 1.3 ATA. Higher pressures add risk (ear barotrauma, oxygen toxicity at the extreme end) without adding proportional benefit for wellness purposes.
That’s why the AirPod runs at 1.35 ATA: enough pressure to do the work, gentle enough to be comfortable, safe, and suitable for regular use. The experience itself is the opposite of clinical — you’re lying comfortably in a spacious chamber with clear views out, able to talk to us at any time.
Is It Right For You?
Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy isn’t a magic bullet, and it isn’t a replacement for medical treatment — if you have a health condition, keep working with your doctor. What it is, for many people, is a genuinely useful tool: a way of giving your body more of the raw material it needs to produce energy, calm inflammation, recover properly, and think clearly.
